II Year

Integrated Pre-clinical Education - Dental materials science module (person responsible Krzysztof Wilk DDS, Ph.D.). This course takes place in the 3rd semester; the total number of hours is 45, including 14 lectures, 7 seminars, and 24 exercises.
The effect of education is the acquisition of knowledge about dental office equipment and instruments used in various fields of dentistry, definition, classification, composition, construction, properties, method of binding, purpose and methods of using basic and auxiliary dental materials, properties of surface layers of tooth tissues and biomaterials and their degradation (corrosion) in oral conditions. In terms of skills, the student should be able to operate dental equipment and apparatus, use instruments and use auxiliary and basic materials in clinical and laboratory procedures. Form of credit - written test and OSCE tasks in the winter session.

Integrated Pre-clinical Education - Preclinical conservative dentistry module (a person responsible Małgorzata Ponto-Wolska DDS, Ph.D.). This course takes place in the 3rd semester; the total number of hours is 45, including 6 lectures, 9 seminars, and 33 exercises.

The content of the education includes issues related to the properties of tooth hard tissues, basic procedures for the reconstruction of mineralized tissues, methods of using basic and auxiliary materials in conservative dentistry, the phenomenon of adhesion and surface preparation of mineralized tissues for adhesive connection.
The effect of education is the acquisition of knowledge by the student regarding the criteria for the selection of restorative materials based on their properties and the acquisition of the ability to use basic materials and adhesive techniques to fill class I-V cavities in phantom teeth on low and high-fidelity simulators. Practical classes are also conducted using simulators in the VR environment. Form of credit - written test and OSCE tasks in the winter session.

Integrated Pre-clinical Education - Preclinical prosthetics module (person responsible Krzysztof Wilk DDS, Ph.D. and Renata Lenkiewicz DDS). This course takes place in the 3rd and 4rd semesters; the total number of hours is 30, including 4 lectures, 12 seminars, and 14 exercises.
The content of education includes the acquisition of knowledge about the basics of prosthetic diagnostics, classification of missing teeth, types of prosthetic restorations and methods and procedures of laboratory procedures. In terms of skills, the student is able to perform prosthetic restorations in laboratory conditions. Form of credit - colloquium and OSCE tasks in the summer session.

Prosthodontics (a person responsible Renata Lenkiewicz DDS). This course takes place in the 3rd semester; the total number of hours is 20 seminars.
The content of this course includes anatomy and physiology of the masticatory system, principles of occlusion, structure, and function of the temporomandibular joint, the function of masticatory muscles, spatial relations of maxillo-mandibular positions, and etiological factors of centric (non-functional) and eccentric (functional) occlusal disorders.
The aim of this training is the acquisition of knowledge of homeostasis, adaptation, structure, feedback mechanisms, and mechanisms of the masticatory system. The student should be able to foresee and explain pathological mechanisms leading to masticatory system disorders, project the proper occlusion for a subject, and perform an occlusal analysis.
Completion of the course:  no grade. Completion form: MCQ test.

Physiology of the masticatory system (a person responsible Renata Lenkiewicz DDS). This course takes place in the 4rd semester; the total number of hours is 27, including 5 lectures, 8 seminars, and 14 exercises.
Content of this course: anatomy and function of the masticatory system, physiology of deciduous and permanent dentition’s development, functions of different groups of teeth, the reaction of the pulp to different stimuli, physiology of the periodontium and oral mucosa, occlusion and its development and change throughout the course of life, and biomechanics of the temporomandibular joint. The curriculum also includes exploration of the physiology of such activities as mastication, swallowing, and speech.
The goal of this course for the student is to develop a working knowledge of masticatory system structures, function and development of anatomical parts and their mutual correlations, principles of statics and biomechanics of the masticatory system and the essential life functions within it, principles of occlusion in different life stages, the role of the nervous system in the correlation of functions, and appropriate interpretation of phenomena occurring in the masticatory system.
Completion of the course: no grade. Completion form: MCQ test

Integrated Pre-clinical Education - Preclinical endodontics (a person responsible Łukasz Zadrożny DDS, Ph.D.). This course takes place in the 4rd semester; the total number of hours is 45, including 6 lectures, 9 seminars, and 30 exercises.
This module includes the anatomy of tooth chambers, endodontic instruments (according to ISO standards), dental materials used in the endodontic treatment and hand-on's of endodontic procedures on phantoms.
The effect of education is the acquisition by the student of knowledge on the performance of endodontic procedures and the ability to perform endodontic treatment on a phantom model and tooth reconstruction after endodontic treatment. Form of credit - single choice test (10 questions online on the e-learning platform), written test and OSCE tasks in the summer session.

Integrated Pre-clinical Education
- Course completion: weighted average of grades from individual modules of equal importance (50%) of knowledge and skills, in case of failing the written test, the student is entitled to one repeat data.
The OSCE consists of 2 parts: the first part in the fall semester and the second part in the summer semester. The exam includes obtaining at least 55% of points. and positive evaluation of each completed task. The points obtained from both parts of the OSCE add up. In the case of obtaining more than 55% of points, in the absence of a positive grade for all tasks, the make-up date is treated as a supplement to 1 term without increasing the number of previously obtained points. Obtaining less than 55% of points results in an unsatisfactory grade in 1 term. The OSCE makeup exam applies only to the performance of tasks that have not received a positive assessment. Theoretical exam - a single-choice test (70 questions) covering the content of the modules: ergonomics in dentistry, dental materials, conservative dentistry, endodontics and preclinical prosthetics. The final grade for the Integrated pre-clinical education subject is the average of the practical and theoretical grades, provided that both exams are passed.
