Prophylaxis in dentistry (person responsible Małgorzata Ponto-Wolska DDS, Ph.D.). The subject takes place in the first semester; the total number of hours is 45, including 5 lectures, 20 seminars, and 20 exercises.
The content of the education includes issues related to a dental examination, oral health promotion and health education, the impact of physical, chemical, and biological factors, nutrition and stress on the masticatory system and dental prophylaxis.
The effect of education is the acquisition of knowledge in the field of basic concepts related to the prevention and promotion of health and the principles of preventive and therapeutic procedures in diseases of the masticatory system in various stages of development, disease prevention and strengthening oral health, planning and evaluation of preventive measures and nutrition. In terms of skills, the student should be able to conduct pro-health education and promote oral health, plan and implement prophylactic activities regarding the masticatory system, conduct a dental examination of the patient and perform basic prophylactic procedures. The form of crediting the course - presentation of one's own preventive program and a written test.
Integrated Pre-clinical Education - Ergonomics in dentistry module (a person responsible Małgorzata Ponto-Wolska DDS, Ph.D.). This module takes place in the second semester; the total number of hours is 30, including 8 lectures, 4 seminars, and 15 exercises.
The effect of education is the acquisition of knowledge by the student in the field of dental office equipment and instruments used in dental procedures, the etiology of occupational diseases related to the practice of dentistry, the principles of ergonomic organization of work in the dental office and performing dental procedures, and the principles of occupational health and safety in the workplace. Regarding skills, the student should recognize harmful and burdensome factors in the workplace, residence or study, work with an ergonomic work organization, and apply sanitary and epidemiological regulations and health and safety regulations. Evaluation criteria: practical performance of 2 selected tasks and the test with a grade, in case of failing the practical or theoretical part, the student is entitled to one resit date.
